The story of RUUT KIERTO

RUUT KIERTO was born out of a desire and need to make household recycling beautiful and smooth. Recycling is part of our lives, but it doesn't have to be ugly and difficult. While indoors the lack of space needed for various garbage containers can easily reduce the enthusiasm for recycling, outdoors sorting stations all too often constitute an abomination in the yard. We at RUUT KIERTO design products that not only solve domestic sorting problems, but products that add joy and benefit to the process of sorting recyclable materials.

We want to contribute to building an environment that delights the eye and encourages everyone to do their part to solve the recycling problem. We do this by creating recycling solutions that are functional and in harmony with the architecture of the main building and the surrounding environment. A small recycling station such as the RUUT KIERTO canopy can be a jewel in the yard that enhances the quality of the urban space significantly with the green roofs of our canopies bringing nature to the city and expanding the urban green area.

The name RUUT is related to “roots”, but also means “friend” in Hebrew. RUUT was founded by two friends, architect Elina Ipatti and master painter and colour designer Anni Rantasalo. We both have years of experience in conservation and restorative renovation and a unique understanding of the stylistic features of historic buildings built during different eras.

Ecological and sustainable values form the basis of everything we do, from the design up to the finished product and its installation. By making recycling both a beautiful and practical way of our everyday life we at RUUT want to make the world a cleaner and more beautiful place to live. Elina Ipatti - founder of RUUT, chief designer and architect As an architect, I am particularly interested in the everyday side of human life and I strongly believe that with good planning, we can make everyday settings beautiful and functional.
